An MC no longer
6:15 PM

I went through my Multiply updates, as usual, and viewed the list making sure not to give a poop for those updates for online stores haha. The update that caught my eye was a link posted by Ate Cha (Kiara's sister). It was a link of her class site (Block 8 Greenbatch 2003). As curious as I am, I clicked it and viewed two things on that site: Profiles and Teachers. I initially viewed it to see if I knew any of them and to see if some of the teachers that taught them were still "alive". Instead, I started noticing differences between their batch and lower batches and I started comparing as well.

Bottom line: It really looks like MC has lower standards now and those standards are lowered every time a new batch enters.

Don't get me wrong, I love my alma mater (hell, I wouldn't have the same interests and perseverance in everything if I didn't "form" mysel in that school). But I have to admit, even with my own batch, that MC isn't what it was before. Alumnae would say the same (I wouldn't be bold enough to write this down if I didn't have that to back this up)

Why?
  1. MC had a cut off before and now, I don't think such a cut-off exists. We had, what we called 'entrance tests'. Now they call it 'placement tests'. We were, I think, the last batch to have a cut- off and now the number of sections per year have escalated to, at the most, 13 or 14 sections? Not long ago, the most number of sections a batch had was 6-8 (we had 9 haha and the next batch jumped to 11 sections). Exclusivity isn't my point here. It's just that-- sayang lang. It's evident that people in charge have slacked off to the standards, thus, lowering it.
  2. Stories from teachers whose names I won't mention here. They would always tell us how lucky we were because we do less. Older batches had more subjects and stuff and well... We didn't haha. (Oh but we had Econ and Electives... Something new c:)
  3. When I looked at the profiles page on the Block8'03 site, I noticed that ALL OF THEM went to either UP(d, m and lb) or Ateneo only. They were an honor's class (a system that stopped at their batch, methinks) so yeah, that explains it. Wala lang... It wouldn've been nice siguro if a section in our batch had that bit to brag about haha.
  4. Word of mouth. My mom and tita's told me that, during their time, when you say you're a Maryknoll graduate, people had high praises for you. They called it the "loss of the Maryknoll luster"
  5. Not a lot of teachers before complained about the admin and left because of the admin they disliked It's a different case now (another sentiment from teachers and former teachers whose names I shall, again, not mention here)
I wouldn't want to come across as someone who totally detests my former school. I don't eh. I'll say this, though; I'm still happy that I went to that school and I'm still very proud of the blue and gold haha (and my batch, especially :D; highest ranking batch at the ncae tests and the batch with the highest number of students, in history daw, to pass UP :D:D:D). I still think that MC has really good english and environmental programs. My only wish is that the 'high-standards' that MC always boasts about will be retained and still be there. I'd still want my future kids to attend that school, k.
